The Joy and Benefits of Growing Your Own Groceries

By growing our own groceries, we have access to fresh, nutrient-rich produce. Most grocery store produce often loses its nutrients due to long storage periods in freezers.

We eat healthily, the way nature intended.

We empower ourselves by tapping into our natural human innate abilities to nourish ourselves. By producing our own groceries, we reduce our reliance on external food systems and become more self-sufficient.

It nurtures and grows our relationship with nature and our appreciation for our planet. We are made to spend time in nature.

We learn about the importance of soil, the foundation of life. Pesticides, overdevelopment, and chemical pollution have taken a toll on our soils, leading to depletion of vital nutrients and microbial life. Through gardening, we become stewards of the land, working to restore and enrich the soil.

We learn and observe the creation of a natural ecosystem. As we cultivate our garden, we become witnesses to the interconnectedness of various elements, from the soil teeming with microbial activity to the delicate dance between plants, animals, and insects. As our plants grow, they attract a myriad of visitors. Birds, too, are drawn to our gardens, their songs filling the air. All of a sudden, one day, we look around and witness that working in harmony with nature has created a habitat and natural ecosystem for wildlife, pollinators and rich soil that grows our food.

Through the gardening process, we learn about life. The process of gardening: planting a seed, watering (nurturing) it daily and awaiting the first signs of life, trusting in the unseen processes taking place beneath the surface of seed to sprout is parallel to important aspects of our lives. The miracles that take place from caring for our garden and witnessing it grow can be compared to the nurturing that the most important things in our lives require to grow and unfold, like relationships, family, and life goals.

I hope you embrace the beauty and rewards of growing your own groceries.
